5 Service Businesses Still Running On WhatsApp and You Can Turn That Into $10K-$100K MRR.

There’s a guy named Dave who runs a pest control company in Ohio. Five trucks. Eleven years in business. Last year he made $600,000 in revenue.

He was also running everything - job scheduling, invoices, customer follow-ups, route planning - out of a WhatsApp group and a spiral notebook.

Not because he’s bad at business. Because nobody built him something better. Or rather, nobody built him something simple enough that he’d actually use it.

That’s the gap this edition is about.

Trades businesses - pest control, pool cleaning, HVAC, mobile detailing, lawn care - are doing serious money. The US home services market is worth over $600 billion. These are not small operators. But the software they use is either way too expensive and complex (ServiceTitan starts at $400–$700/month), too generic (Jobber and ServiceM8 work fine but aren’t built for one trade), or nonexistent.

And that’s exactly where indie founders are stepping in. Building dead-simple tools for one trade, selling them for $49–$149/month, and growing entirely through word of mouth in trade Facebook groups and Reddit threads. No ads. No sales team. No VC.

This is that playbook - broken down practically enough that you could start validating one this week.

What We’re Covering

  • Why the trades market is one of the best-kept secrets in B2B SaaS

  • The real business already making money in this space and opportunities (with numbers)

  • The specific trades that still have no good tool built for them

  • The exact playbook: how to find your niche, validate it for free, and build it without writing code

  • The tools you need, the communities where your customers live, and the one pricing move that makes this sticky.

Why Trades Are A SaaS Gold Mine Nobody’s Mining

Here’s something most builders miss:

trades businesses are desperate for software. They just don’t know how to find it, evaluate it, or trust it.

The average plumber isn’t reading Product Hunt. He’s in a Facebook group called “Plumbing Business Owners USA” with 47,000 members asking which app to use for invoicing.

The average pool cleaner is on Reddit complaining that Jobber is “too complicated” and “built for companies way bigger than mine.”

That’s the signal. When people say a tool is “too complicated,” what they mean is: nobody built this for me specifically.

And that’s your opportunity.

The trades market has a few characteristics that make it exceptional for this type of business:

  • High willingness to pay.

A plumber charging $150/hour doesn’t blink at $79/month for software that saves them 3 hours a week. The math is obvious to them.

  • Almost zero churn.

Once a trades operator sets up their customer list, job history, and invoice templates in your tool, they’re not leaving. Switching costs are brutal. These businesses run on routine and habit. If it works, they use it forever.

  • Word of mouth is the entire distribution channel.

These people talk to each other constantly - at trade shows, in Facebook groups, on job sites. One happy customer in a 50,000-member Facebook group is worth more than $10,000 in Google Ads.

  • The incumbent tools are leaving gaps on purpose.

Jobber and Housecall Pro serve everyone - plumbers, electricians, cleaners, landscapers. That means they build features that work okay for all of them but are perfect for none of them. A pest control company needs chemical tracking and regulatory compliance logs.

A pool cleaner needs chemical balance records per customer. A mobile detailer needs before/after photo workflows and paint condition notes per vehicle. Generic tools don’t do this well, and the big players won’t build it because it’s “too niche.”

Too niche for them. Perfect for you.

The Real Businesses Already Doing This

Let me show you some examples of companies already doing this, but there is still a huge opportunity in this $600 billion industry that you can build for using no-code tools. We’ve also shared some of the opportunities that are still available.
